My "huh!" moment

Today we had a really small Primary. So small, that it was just my two kids! So I sent my counselors to Relief Society and decided me the kids were just going to sing! I had the Sharingtime lesson prepared, but was struggling with how I was going to teach it to a younger group from the get-go, so didn't really worry about teaching it. Near the end of our hour (we only have 2 hour church currently), Sevy asked why we hadn't done Sharingtime yet. So, I taught it. I've been teaching Primary so long and every week decide that the kids don't listen to me. I'm always annoyed or frustrated or just tired. Today though, teaching Sevy one-on-one (Teik was aimlessly wandering the room), I realized, she really is listening. She knew the answers to all my questions, and caught on a lot better than I expected. It made me love teaching again--even with our simple 10 minute lesson where the majority of it was spent helping her spell out words to fill in a worksheet! I was telling Jon about this on our way home from church and we decided that for FHE, we are going to teach her out of the CTR manual that she would be learning out of if we had the regular church schedule. I do now feel that she is learning and missing out on great lessons. The best part--it makes FHE easy because I have the manual and an activity book that goes along with it! We are redetermined to tackle FHE!

We still struggle with FHE. Our lessons come from the nursery manual and we try to do the same lesson that Ethan gets on Sunday. We have to look at the picture he brings home to know which lesson was taught. These lessons seem to make our 5 min FHE work, when we do it.

kids surprise me how much they pick out of Church. they are way more attentive to the spirit than we give them credit for, well, most of them. Hooray for Sevy and her super savy-ness.

FHE will always be a hard one for us to tackle. Neither of us grew up with it. We usually just say whatever activity we are doing that day is it.

Love your idea and will have to start trying harder!

I LOVE that. I sometimes wonder what Sarah is hearing, and then all of the sudden...BHAM! She says something she overheard, and I am temporarily knocked unconscious with happiness.

and im hoping this old wives tale thing is true. i was a bald baby for quite a while, and i thought for sure in the beggining it was going to be a girl. but now ive been having dreams of a boy, so who knows...

So how IS the 2 hour church going?? And how many are actually there at 8? :) We need some more pics!!

That's a great idea to use the manual for some FHE lessons! We actually had FHE last week (let's just say it's been awhile) and Kenzi really enjoyed it and asked me if we could have it again the next night :) Love that these little ones know what's important and help us with gentle reminders!
