Our Year in Brief

Okay, this may not be as brief as planned! This past year has been so fantastic in so many ways! It started off with a bang with Shawn returning from his mission in Fiji! (Actually, I guess this happened in December, but we got to see him after the new year, so I think it counts!) We were all excited for his homecoming and he got to me our 9 month Sevy for the first time!

For Mom's birthday in February, Dad flew her, and Jaclyn and Lleida to good ole Lubbock, Texas to come visit us! I'm sure it was more a treat for us than for Mom, but it was really fun! It was also a monumentous occasion for Sevy because she took her first steps from Pappa to Uncle Shawn! We were quite excited!

Sevy turns ONE! That is basically the most exciting thing that happened in March. And April for that matter! Okay, springtime was just a relaxing time for us. We did throw a party for Sevy with her cousin's Nyah and Drew there and that was basically it! Oh wait! We also were blessed with Sarah Luella Rail! She was born to Candice and Andrew Rail, their first! She's a doll!

May was very fun indeed! We (Sevy and I) took a trip home for the wedding of Rachel Wiscombe to Travis Porter! They got married in the Bountiful temple and it was great to be there! Rachel is the last of our dynamic roommates to be married. We were the goldmine trio that married off every single fourth roommate we ever had until we finally moved away from each other, giving ourselves a chance of true love! Rachel looked gorgeous and it was an amazing wedding!
We also took a trip with Jon's family to Colorado! So fun! We went fishing, and horsebackriding, and just drove around the gorgeous countryside. We stayed in a little cabin and it was just really relaxing to be up there!
Avery McKay Dance was born to Torrie and Brent Dance this summer also! We love our neices! She is seriously darling!




In August we went down to San Antonio for the first of Jon's dental school interviews! We made a trip out of it and went down to the Riverwalk, and then hit up the San Antonio Zoo before heading back to Lubbock. The city is great and we had a fun time. It was a quick trip, but really cool to see a different side of Texas (dare I say the pretty side!)

September led to another trip home to visit the family and then another wedding! Kristen Gummow (SSU member for life) married Rob Bolke. They were married in the Salt Lake City temple and it was also amazing!

Shawn announced in November that he is getting married! The last of the Bagley clan to finally tie the knot. Her name is Chantall (I need to make sure I get the spelling right), and she is from the Portland area and easily towers over all of us! She's super cute and we are so excited for them!

I scored big this fall! In October Sevy and I went home yet again for a surprise birthday party for my Dad! He turned the big 60 this year! Crazy! It was so fun surprising him though! We stuck Sevy at the front door and rang the doorbell and hid so when Dad opened the door, there was Sevy just looking at him! Classic! Oh-I also found out I was pregnant with number 2!

December really was a great month! It was a fantastic way to end the year! Jon got accepted to his first dental school, HOUSTON! We went home for Christmas and learned that Sevy really hated snow. Like really screamed if we stuck her in it. Sadly funny! We were also blessed with a new baby for Jaclyn and Zac Brunson! They recieved Cairo "Ky" Bond Brunson right before Christmas! To end the year off right, we were able to go through the Rexburg Temple openhouse on Dec 31st. My goodness, it is beautiful! I'm so excited to have a temple in Rexburg!

Poor Sick Sevy Again

Poor Sevy has gotten sick again. The poor thing has had a fever all week and just sleeps. She has an ear infection and it's really been the saddest thing to see her just moan and cuddle and sleep and then repeats. She has no appetite and it's been really hard to see her so sick, but she is so cute when she sleeps!

This is Sevy's new favorite place to play. She takes out the brown sugar and the popcorn seeds and sits in our cubbard next to the flour! She sticks her toys in there and her bottles in there, and tries shutting herself into it! That's my girl!

I'm Retarded

Due to vanity and jealousy of other peoples blogs, I've changed mine and as a result lost all links I had attached. So, if anyone notices that once upon a time you were on my blog link list and now you are not, please send me your link. I've tried my best to get back most, but I'm likely still missing some. Da da da daaa, da da da da da DAAAAAAAA!

JON GOT INTO DENTAL SCHOOL AT HOUSTON! We now officially have some sort of plan for next year! We haven't heard from San Antonio yet, and are still hoping for choices, but to get into at least one is an answer to so many prayers! We just thought we would share the good news!

Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has always been a funny holiday to me because frankly, I'm not exactly a fan of a lot of the key elements. I'm not a huge turkey person (only one day a year will I really eat it.), I could care less for football, I hate sweet potatoes (we are talking gag reflex), it took me 21-ish years to like cranberry sauce (I'll only eat it on turkey), and yeah. Sad. Luckily, I'm getting better, and Thanksgiving at the Ormson's is always good! (We get regular mashed potatoes!) Nancy is a dynomite cook and I always feel guilty as she slaves away making homemade crescent rolls, pies from scratch, cornbread stuffing, and the rest of the works. I don't exactly have anything to contribute unless someone is in the mood for a pudding pie instead!

Sevy has a blast in Amarillo because that's where her best friend Drew lives. They play together so well, and unfortunetely Sevy tries to kiss him sometimes. They are so funny together though. We went bowling and they chased each other everywhere cracking up. Not the funnest for us trying to catch them and keep them from bothering the other bowlers! They really do play well, and only sometimes does it end in violence!

Poor Sevy had an interesting time this trip. Drew is a fast runner and she tries to keep up, but is not exactly great at running long distances without tripping yet. (I think she gets that from her mother . . . oh wait!) She also loves to carry everything she is wanting to play with as she runs. This never ends happily. So she was trying to keep up with Drew while carrying a toy bat, her moo cow, and probably a ball, when she splats across the wood floor. Usually she's fine, but not this time. We pick her up with a mouthful of blood and a sad fatlip that lasted a couple of days. To make it an even better battle wound, a black eye showed up the next day--just in time for family pictures! That's my girl!

A Birthday Surprise and a Fairy

My dad turned 60 this year--can you believe it?! And so for his birthday we threw him a surprise, "Happy Birthday, we're glad you're still here!" party, and it actually stayed a surprise! Amazing! Mom flew Sevy and I in for the event and Thursday night we decided to drop in and surprise Dad. We rung the doorbell and when Dad opened the door, there stood Sevy, by herself, looking up at Pappa! He was so excited and so surprised! Pappa was Sevy's favorite person this trip! (oh--p.s. Jaclyn is only taller than me in the above picture because she's wearing like 4" heels.)

Coming home is so fun because everyone lives so close now! (Except me.) Sevy was able to play with all of her cousins and they had a great time! On Saturday--the actual birthday--we all went out to eat and then Shawn and Dad took the kiddo's flying. This is something I usually avoid, due to the fact that I cronically get sick in small airplanes (sad when you consider my family!), however, Dad asked if Sevy wanted a ride and there you have it . . . I was stuck going too! Surprisingly, it was not bad! Dad took us up in the Birddog--an old war plane--and Sevy liked looking out the window and had a great time, and I didn't get sick! Shawn flew in formation with us with some of the other kiddo's who wanted to go upside down, so they were in the Decathalon. Everyone had a blast!

That night, Dad and Shawn did a fly-by for Jack Layton's 80th birthday and we were all at the museum frantically trying to get everything done. They brought the planes in and we all ran to hide and we were sure Dad saw at least one of us--but no! He thought he had to speak at some dinner that night, so he went to his hangar to study. When he came over just after 6pm, the museum was filled with friends and family and he was so surprised! It was awesome! The party turned out great and the whole trip was just so fun!

Halloween: So yesterday was Halloween, and really, for me the best part of this holiday is dressing up Sevy. This included Sevy as a naked rockstar--we have a video of her jamming out and dancing--and then for the real festivities, a fairy (because who can resist a puffy skirt a wings?!) We missed the trunk-or-treat this year, so instead, we went to the mall for easy trick-or-treating. After a couple of stores, Sevy caught what was going on and would go up to the candy person and open her bag or help herself! She was loving it! After the mall we went over to the gym I work at because they were doing a carnival type party. We walked around there for a few minutes, and called it a night. Halloween is fun, but not what it used to be.

1. I am most organized in random piles. Sure, an outsider would think my house is a cluttered mess, but I really know where everything I need is, as long as no one moves my pile. This technique is needing revising since blessed Sevy likes to create havoc on my life.


2. I'm a wannabe artist. I love art and I love crafts, and people think I'm creative, but no. I just steal people's ideas and try to make them my own. Sad. That's the truth.


3. I'm addicted to sugar. I can't help it. It's really my food of choice. I like to think of it this way though: licorice is a fat-free food. That means I can eat as much of it as I want! (don't knock it--it's great rationale.)


4. I love teeny-bopper movies and books. It's embarrassing, but it's who I am. Jon makes fun of me all the time about it because I love the Stephenie Meyer's books and I love Meg Cabot's books and I love basically every movie Anne Hathaway is in (and frankly, that's a lot of happy feel good movies). I just love happy feel good!


5. Jon says I don't use "be" verbs. Apparently I say, "this needs washed." when I'm suppose to say, "this needs to be washed." It drives him crazy. I blame the fact that I was raised and pretty much entirely educated in Idaho. Go figure.


6. I'm the most un-motivated gym-addict I know. I know you are thinking, "What?" Let me explain: I'm really good at going to classes like 6 days a week and working hard, and just getting that "ah yeah" felling out of a 1 hr gym class, but if I try to work out by myself, it's no good. I last like 10 minutes. However, I will be teaching my very own x-biking class, and I can only hope that I'll stay motivated for the class. (I will be . . . I promise!)

Harvest Fun in Amarillo

Sevy has a new love for her nose. I don't know where she got this from, but as the good parents we are, we've been trying to capture her pickin' it. So at the corn maze last night we took a family picture in the dark and what does Sevy do for us? Oh, Yes! She thought she wouldn't get caught . . .

One of the funniest things about going to Amarillo, is the gathering of the Monkey Squad. These kiddo's are hilarious together! They are like a pack of crazies running amuck and driving us crazy, but they are so cute that you just gotta love 'em!

I know everyone tells me that Sevy is the spitting image/mini-me of Jon, and I'm always in denile because as a mom--having a girl--you want them to look like you. Well, Sevy looks like Jon, it's undeniable. But, Sevy's hair looks like the top of the corn stalks. She's very versitile. I feel a model career in the works.

The last greatest thing about the corn maze was the corn gun. As a Idaho Native, potato guns are basically the coolest things ever, but this corn gun was actually quite comparable. I thought we looked good behind the big artillary also!

Poor Sick Sevy

Since we've got back to Lubbock, poor Sevy has been fighting one sickness after another. There has been so many pros and cons with this little adventure that we just don't know what to think. The cons: well, if any of you have ever cleaned up puke at all hours of the night, changing sheets and giving late night baths, you know where I'm coming from. Her appetite has changed and so we now find a lot more food on her than in her, but she doesn't seem to mind. And, we have gone through like 2 gallons of milk a week in her never ending desire for a "ba-ba." The pros: since baby girl has gotten a little older, she hasn't loved cuddling until lately again. She insists on laying by us--or on us--sitting on our laps, curling into us, and basically always being by one of us . . . usually me because I'm with her 90% of the day. I have to admit, I really love it! She's still such a monkey, but has been much more content just sitting and reading books. Now if we could just get her feeling better.

Nothing is cooler to me than a rockin' group of friends! A week (or so) ago, Sevy and I ventured back up to Utah for the wedding of one of my fellow SSU girls and it was so cool to see basically everyone. We never made it all together at one time, but we made a great effort! These girls still just rock my world! Out of the 9 of us from high school, check out the stats:

9 graduated H.S. with honors

8 have college degrees

1 has finished her master's (she's a nurse practitionor)

2 studied school abroad

7 are married in the temple

4 served full time missions

8 can no longer wear sleaveless dresses (oh well)

5 kids have been born

3 more are on the way

2 have competed in multiple marathons

3 refuse to run if possible

Between the lot of us, we have lived or are living in Idaho, Utah, Oklahoma, Texas, California, Michigan, North Corolina, Hawaii, Brazil, Niceragua (sp?), Arizona

We have 2 nurses, 1 teacher, 1 social worker, 1 english major, 1 chick in finance, 1 business girl, 1 rocking full-time mom (she's about to pop #3 out!), them me the advertising girl working as an instructor at the gym!

I think all in all we turned out okay for a group of girls from Rexburg, Idaho! Seeing them all made me miss them all the more, but the good thing about our group is that we can go years without seeing or even talking to each other much and still when we all get together it's the same as it's always been. A 7 on the Ripppter scale!

Updating the Blog

For starters, I just have to say I'm a total hypocrit. I look at other blogs and wonder why people haven't updated yet because it has been like two weeks, and then I pull the same crap. Go figure!

Life for the Ormson clan has been busy at best. Jon has just started school again and is trying to get back into that schedule of all school all the time. Sevy and I are adjusting from working all summer, to spastically working here and there. I'm still working both jobs, but less hours at the eye doctor's--this is because Jon is gone more often with school and there goes my babysitter! At the gym I'm still teaching a kidfit class Monday mornings, youth kickboxing Monday nights, I'm subbing for a Mom'n'Me class the next couple of weeks, and I may be picking up an adult X-Biking class twice a week. Crazy! This keeps us busy!

Sevy is growing like mad! Every day seems like something new with her. Her vocabulary is limited and I think this is hard for her so she's gotten into the habit of yelling "Uh!" to get our attention. It's not going as well as she probably hoped for! She's also is becoming an accomplished climber. Nothing is safe anymore. She can get onto any chair in our house including her high chair. She climbs into the car by herself, which is heaven sent because she is not exactly a light chicken and my back is breaking! She's a total girl in the fact that she loves to pull out shoes for me or herself to wear and astonishling, they are always a matching pair. I don't know where this talent came from because anyone who knows me knows I'm coordinatingly challenged! We are also venturing to potty train her. Slow and steady is our idea. She loves to sit on her potty, but nothing happens when she does. Oh well! We are in no big rush and she is still super young, but boy would it be nice!

This Labor Day weekend we went up to Amarillo to the blessing of our newest cousin Avery McKay Dance. She is a cutie! The whole family was in town so it was a real treat! We took advantage of the nice weather and extra bodies and played tennis at a really nice (in my opinion) tennis center. It was super fun! There weren't too many people so Sevy could wander around and still be locked in near us! She makes the most excellent ball caddy and loved to run around throwing and chasing everything she could. Jon even helped her play a little tennis. She really liked that! She also enjoyed spending time with her cousins. She's shot up and so is now basically the same size as her cousin Nyah, just not as good on her feet! They liked to run around together and we all tried to keep them from killing each other with super chokehold hugs!

That's basically our life as of late in a nutshell. This last picture I just thought was cute. I gave Sevy chocolate pudding the other day and she did really good eating it at first, and then like all things, it just ended up all over her tray and her body! She was loving it! Nothing like a big mess to make a kid happy! That's all!

San Antonio

Well, we had our first interview for dental school and it brought us to the beautiful part of Texas . . . San Antonio. It's really weird how much prettier the scenery get when you travel either severe south or severe north from here! We didn't have a lot of time down there, but we tried to make the most of what little time we had. We got there late Sunday night and basically just crashed at the hotel. Exciting. I guess we did venture to where Jon's interview would be the following day so that he could easily find it. Whoopee! Anyhoo-Monday morning Jon left for his interview and Sevy and I just hung out around the hotel, watched movies, went swimming, took a nap, etc. Jon came home beat, and we then took off downtown for the Riverwalk. Last time I was here I was in a wheelchair. I'll tell ya what--it's so much easier to get around walking. A stroller was a pain with the stairs and rocks along the walkway by the river. We walked around for a couple of hours before we stopped in at Johnny Rockets for dinner. Sevy was miraculously a saint for all of this and didn't even complain in her stroller. We were amazed! Tuesday we went to the San Antonio Zoo and Sevy loved it. She loves monkeys and birds and fish and "ooohhed" at the majority of the animals we saw. They have this great kid area that kids can swim in a river and play in sand and they have a big field to run around in and a discovery area. Really cool! Truthfully, we only lasted a few hours at the zoo before we were dying of heat and fatigue and ventured back to the car and the 7 hour drive home. Sevy is generally easy to drive with, but occassionally she gets like car sick. Fun for us. It made the drive a little longer because we had to stop and change her clothes and clean out her seat. Uck! All in all . . . killer short trip!
